Frequently Asked Questions
Can I contact the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee by email?
No, there is no public email address for the committee. Messages of
support must be sent in the form of cards, letters, or paper petitions.
Why write now if the centennial isn't until 2011?
Three years is the suggested lead time for any commemorative stamp.
The committee only meets four times a year, and once approved, proposals
still need time for design and production. See
the USPS web site for more details. Since Bill is eligible now, we
wouldn't mind if he was selected sooner!
What should I write in my letter?
Write in your own words whenever possible. Some of the criteria used
by the committee are that the subjects be "American or American-related",
and of "widespread national appeal and significance".
Emphasize the ways that Bill Monroe's life and career meet those criteria.
See this page for more facts about Bill Monroe
that you might want to mention.
I've written a letter - what else can I do?
Help spread the word! Contact your local bluegrass association or
DJ of your favorite radio show and let them know about the campaign.
Can you add my site to the links page?
We add links to bluegrass related sites that actively support the
campaign and that link to http://www.billmonroestamp.org . Contact
stewart@billmonroestamp.org
to request to be added.
